4U1UN ---> "We're one step closer to being back on the air", James Sarte,
K2QI (President of the United Nations ARC, http://www.4u1un.net ) posted to
Facebook on 16 August.
"As some may know, Dmitri Zhikharev RA9USU along with
Adrian Ciuperca KO8SCA have been working with me behind the scenes to get
the station operational again. Through the generous donations of Dima and
his associates (notably Ed Kritsky NT2X), we were able to get a rack mounted
K3, Acom 2000 linear amplifier, and associated network-enabled control
hardware. We were also granted another K3 to act as a remote head from SK
Tony N2UN via his widow, and delivered to us by Andrew Bodony K2LE. Finally,
Adrian has been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes networking and legwork with
his counterparts to help get things done from within the United Nations.
Yesterday represents an additional milestone for the club as Adrian (who did
most of the work) and I, finally erected a brand new SteppIR BigIR vertical
antenna on the Secretariat's roof. All that remains is to connect and lay
the ground radials, fine-tune the rack mounted devices, and setup and
configure the remote K3. Once done and after almost a decade off-air, we can
finally call CQ 20 de 4U1UN".
"With regards to remote", K2QI explained in late July to DX World (see
https://dx-world.net/whats-the-issue-with-4u1un/), "the operators will still
be inside the UN proper. Just now, everything will be done by IP where the
control heads are located on the first floor and the transceiver on the 41st
floor to minimize coax length to the antennas. There will be no true remote
operations of the station from outside the compound as dictated by current
UN network security protocols".

FT8 OPERATING GUIDE --->
Gary, ZL2IFB has updated his "FT8 Operating Guide"
(Version 1.20), a collection of "tips, pragmatic suggestions aimed at making
FT8 easier and more effective to use on the HF bands": http://www.g4ifb.com/

NCDXF --- > The Northern California DX Foundation has announced the addition
of two new members to the Board: Rich Seifert (KE1B) and Lee Finkel (KY7M).
Both "have strong technical and legal backgrounds, and years of DXpedition
experience, which will serve them well as members of the NCDXF leadership
team". The Board of Directors now includes K6MM (President), AA7A (Vice
President), W0GJ (Secretary), N1DG (Treasurer), AA7JV, K6GFJ, K6TD, K9CT,
KE1B, KY7M and ND2T (Directors). The primary purpose of NCDXF is to help
fund well-organized DXpeditions to rare, difficult and expensive entities.
See http://www.ncdxf.org for complete information.

RI1FJ ---> Evgenij, UA4RX ended his 12-month assignment at the Ernst Krenkel
Observatory on Heiss Island (EU-019), Franz Josef Land on 10 August. The
RI1FJ station has been dismantled, and regrettably the 2018-19 team does not
include amateur radio operators. QSL via LoTW, Club Log's OQRS, or direct to
RW2F (ex UA2FM): Victor N. Loginov, P.O. Box 73, Kaliningrad, 236022,
Russia.

DXCC NEWS ---> 5A1AL (Libya, all operations) has been approved for DXCC
credit. If you have had this rejected in a prior application, you can send
a note to dxccadmin[@]arrl.org to be placed on the list for an update to
your record. Please note the submission date and/or reference number where
the rejection was noted to expedite recovery of the information.

OPERATING STANDARDS BOOKLET ---> Over the last eight years, the booklet
"Ethics and Operating Procedures for the Radio Amateur"
( www.hamradio-operating-ethics.org ) has become a respected work describing
the best standards of operating on the amateur bands. Translated into most
major languages, the booklet by John Devoldere, ON4UN and Mark
Demeuleneere, ON4WW, is a valuable reference work for all radio amateurs.
Mark and John recently contacted IARU, explaining that they felt it
appropriate for IARU to become the custodian of the booklet into the
future. The IARU Administrative Council accepted this offer with gratitude,
and on 5 May Mark and John met Don Beattie, G3BJ, President IARU Region 1,
in Brussels to officially hand over the document. IARU will now carry
forward the work in future years to ensure its continuing relevance and
currency. [TNX IARU Region 1]

DXCC DELETION OF KINGMAN REEF ---> The ARRL Awards Committee has voted to
delete Kingman Reef (KH5) from the DXCC List, effective 29 March 2016.
Kingman Reef will be added to the Deleted Entities List on 29 March 2016.
The total number of entities on the List will drop from 340 to 339.
The deletion process is described in DXCC Rules Section II DXCC List
Criteria, Part 5(a) Deletion Criteria: "An entity may be deleted from the
List if it no longer satisfies the criteria under which it was added.
However, if the entity continues to meet one or more currently existing
rules, it will remain on the List."
With respect to the previous paragraph's text, Kingman Reef's original
addition by virtue of separate administration has changed (separate
administration by the U.S. Navy has been removed), and the reef does not
meet any current criteria to remain on the list. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service administers Kingman Reef and Palmyra Island. The reef is too close
to Palmyra Island to count as a separate entity. The reef is now considered
part of the Palmyra/Jarvis DXCC entity.

DXCC members who have affirmed credit with Kingman Reef will see their
current entity totals drop by one on their DXCC awards - including on the
bands and modes where Kingman Reef credit is given. They will also see
their DXCC Challenge totals drop commensurately. Honor Roll status will now
be attainable after confirming 330 entities on the DXCC List.
[TNX NN1N]

INTREPID SPIRIT AWARD ---> The Intrepid-DX Group ( INTREPID SPIRIT AWARD ) is
pleased to announce that Yasuo "Zorro" Miyazawa, JH1AJT is the recipient of
the 4th annual Intrepid Spirit Award, made in memory of James McLaughlin,
WA2EWE/T6AF (killed in Kabul Afghanistan, on 27 April 2011). The award -
presented at the International DX Convention (Visalia) on 16 April - is to
recognize Zorro's outstanding efforts to activate rare and often difficult
entities such as Eritrea, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
